2012 Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera are “Cars of the Year in Europe”
2012 Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera won the title “Car of the Year 2012“. In awarding this prize to the revolutionary electric car, the jury of 59 leading automotive journalists from 23 European countries supported the machines of General Motors. Ampera / Chevrolet Volt became clear winner with 330 points against the VW Up (281) and Ford Focus (256). The other contenders for first place in this prestigious ranking Citroen DS5, Fiat Panda, Range Rover and Toyota Yaris. The jury again stopped at the green car, as it did last year. Then for № 1 on the Old Continent was elected Nissan Leaf. Before him were the winners Volkswagen Polo, Opel Insignia and Fiat 500. For the first time in the history of the prize, the choice of winner is made in connection with the International Motor Show in Geneva. Executive Director of Opel / Vauxhall, Karl Friedrich Strack and President and Managing Director of Chevrolet, Susan Doharti together received the “Car of the Year 2012″ by the president of the jury Heykan Matson. Ampera and Volt were joint winners of seven finalists in the competition COTY. Originally launched 35 new models recently participated in the race. The criteria according to which the jury made its selection based on merit as design, comfort, dynamic performance and especially innovative technology and efficiency – areas in which the Ampera and 2012 Chevrolet Volt dominate.
2012 Opel Ampera and Volt have won numerous international awards and titles including “World Green Car of the Year 2011″ and “Car of the Year 2011 in North America.” The models received accolades such as safety, the highest rating of five stars in tests Euro NCAP. Ampera and Volt are the first electric cars on the market in which their owners can go anywhere, anytime.
