Hyundai announced that the model Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2012 will have a lifetime warranty for its lithium-polymer batteries. Replacement of batteries in hybrid vehicles causes a lot of questions among potential customers. We know that the package of batteries is the most expensive component in these new cars and a possible replacement would cost serious investment. Most manufacturers guarantee query leads to long-term power supply. One of the leading companies in these technologies – Toyota offers the usual eight years warranty for batteries in hybrid and distance of 100,000 kilometers. Now Hyundai throws “bomb”, saying that their model will be sold with a lifetime warranty on batteries. Apparently Korean company intends to build a healthy market for hybrid vehicles.

CEO John Krafcik announced that the batteries of Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2012 will receive a lifetime warranty. From Hyundai believe that offering a lifetime warranty on the battery; it will be more easily to convince sceptical buyers, who doubt the life and reliability to that expensive block. Krafcik confirmed that the package of lithium polymer batteries, which works with 2012 Sonata hybrid will have a lifetime warranty, saying: “We cannot afford such a program because the failure rate is minimal.”

From Hyundai says that they have conducted drive trials with Sonata Hybrid for more than 500 km and “results show minimal degradation of performance and durability of the batteries.”
Hyundai currently does not provide information whether the warranty will only cover the cells or batteries, it will include integrated hardware and control units, saying “wait and see.” Anything to declare; however, this is a monumental step to strengthen confidence in hybrid technology.
