Lissabon is situated on the river Tagus, near the Atlantic Ocean and is the capital of Portugal from 1255. The city Lissabon was destroyed to the ground by strong earthquakes, twice in its history – in 1356 and 1755 These are false moments that led to the expansion and transformation of Lissabon. The last upgrade of the city Lissabon, made possible after his election as European Cultural Capital in 1994. This is my personal top 10 most interesting in and around Lissabon.

 

 

1. Commonwealth Park – was built in 1998. Located a few kilometers from the city Lissabon center. In the beautiful, modern and spacious park is located Portuguese, Atlantic Pavilion and the pavilion of knowledge. The park in Lissabon can be seen from bird’s-eye view of liftche leading to Vasco da Gama tower. Extensive water gardens are ideal for walking and recreation.

2. Oceanarium – pearl in the crown of the park natsiite.Lissabon  downtown aquarium building is called the “Global Ocean”, which impresses with its vast size. Is 7 meters deep. Each of the four windows of the aquarium has an area of 42 square meters! Over 100 different species inhabit its waters, akuli, yellowfin tuna, coral, solar fish (sunfish) and dr.Oceanarium is educational, but also a conservation and research the types of roles.

3. Sintra town – located a few miles outside of Lissbon. It can be reached in about half an hour by train.
Sintra is a beautiful small town surrounded by forests and castles.

4. The medieval quarter of Alfama (Alfama) – picturesque winding streets, small houses – huddled together. People in Lissabon talking animatedly, sitting on the pavement in front of houses. Before the 1755 earthquake here nobles lived, but then the neighborhood was inhabited by fishermen and craftsmen. Castle of St George is situated on top of one of the seven hills of Lissabon, together with the Lissabon Cathedral are major attractions in Alfama.

6. Monastery of Saint Jerome “(Mosteiro dos Jeronimos) – Located in
neighborhood Belem (Belem)in Lissabon, where are concentrated many monuments, museums and palaces. Belem and Ayuda (Ajuda) adjacent neighborhoods, both have something to browse the entire day (maybe two, if you log in museums – maritime, of archeology, the carriages, the ancient art Planetarium Gyulbekyan, etc..).
St. Jerome was built in the early 16th century by order of Miguel I, and to build its accumulated funds are used by Vasco da Gama during his travels in India.

7. Explorers Monument – is dedicated to the Portuguese sailors who participated in the maritime expeditions in the 15th and 16th century.

The huge monument (high is 52 m) in the form of a ship under sail, was built in 1960. It houses a museum and concert hall in Lissabon.

8. Tower Belém “(Torre de Belem) – The tower, located on the river bank, controls the entrance to the city. Badge of Lissabon is built in Gothic style.

9. Iron Tower, Elevator “Sanra Justa” – High of 45 meters and was built in 1902 by a disciple of Eiffel. Lift the tower and the special trams are a convenient way to reach the hill rather than walk the steep streets in Lissabon.

10. Zoo – Located on a small area in Lissabon, but very rich in species and attractions. Three times a day show is held with dolphins and sea lions. Zoo in Lissabon  has a terrarium, Dolphinarium, liftche cabin for a bird’s eye tour, activities with children and others.
